Monday is the first day of Family Literacy week. Council passed a declaration last week making Jan 22 to the 28th as Family Literacy week.

Bula Gosh and Andrea McCrimmon made a presentation to council discussing the effects of reading and writing.

In her statement, Gosh felt that parent who take time and read to their kids throughout their lives see a remarkable increase in scoring in annual tests.

She feels that reading to children in the primary or first language is important for development as it lays the foundation to learn other languages.

Gosh felt that reading is a skill that needs to be taken seriously and is a responsibility to all.

Literacy day is scheduled for Friday, Jan 27.
