A global auto report released earlier this week by Scotia Economics has pegged Saskatchewan and Alberta as provinces that will lead Canada in car and light truck sales.

The report states that vehicle sales in Saskatchewan last year rose by 7 percent.

Sales Manager at Cypress Motors in Swift Current, Brett Goddard says those numbers appear to be on par from their perspective.

"We are seeing our own numbers up considerably as far as total units going out. Programs are going strong and I think we have a lot of optomism out here in the west," Goddard says. "We had a three year plan that is just wrapping up and we've had to move our numbers up considerably compared to what we thought they were going to be. Sales have been increasing dramatically".

That same report has Saskatchewan pegged as the only province that will set vehicle sale records in 2012, where it's expected that purchases will surpass last years total of 50,000 by nearly 1,000.
