A Southwest Saskatchewan man who made his mark on the sports broadcasting world has passed away.

     Don Wittman, formerly of Herbert, died Saturday morning, just a few months after being diagnosed with cancer.

     He is best known for being one of the most popular sports voices in the country, covering hockey, football, and 18 Olympics for the CBC.

     His final assignment was a Hockey Night in Canada telecast last October, ending a career that spanned more than four decades.

     Don Wittman leaves behind his wife and three children.  He was 71 years old.
