The CBC Literary Awards were handed out recently in Montreal, with a local writer picking up one of the awards.

Phyllis Nakonechny won second prize in the Creative Non-Fiction category for her composition called "Vidh".

She says she wrote it as a way to cope with the passing of her husband and the subsequent grief she went through.  She says the death of a partner causes a person to re-adjust their perspective.

Nakonechny adds that the award is very prestigious and she is very honoured to have received it, calling it a vote of confidence for her ability as a writer.
