The mother of Logan Ring - who was killed in November of 2016 - says sentences for the defendants that have been convicted for their parts in his death have been far too light.

Five people were initially charged with second-degree murder - Rebecca Kulhman pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received an eight-year jail sentence, Todd Donaldson also pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received an eight-year sentence, and Tanisha Perrault entered a guilty plea to accessory after the fact of murder and received a two-year sentence.

Collin Perrault and Jolene Epp - Tanisha's parents - still have their matters before the courts.

Cindy McEwan said that the sentencing she has seen the three receive has been infuriating to her.

"It's kind of a joke that my son's life was worth so little," she said. "They are getting off with accessory after that fact, and even with the manslaughter charge they are getting pathetic sentences."

McEwan said that she would continue to support her son in court, though it might be really hard.

"Someone needs to be there to represent him," she said. " I sit in the courtroom, and there's just me and whoever comes with me and drives me home, because I cry the whole way home."

McEwan said she believes closure will come with time, but not for a while as she doesn't think the five are getting what they deserve.

What she misses most are the 'Hey Mom' texts she received every morning. McEwan added that she would like to honour the memory of her son in Saskatchewan.

"They tarnished his favourite spot," she said. "That was his happy place. That was where he went when he needed to think. They tarnished the one place that I put something. The only place I would have thought of is there. As beautiful as that spot is, it seems spoiled."

The lawyer for Kulhman had no comment, while lawyers for Donaldson and Tanisha were reached out to by the Swift Current Online newsroom and by the time of the publication did not comment.

Colin's matter is due back in court September 23 with Epp's to follow.
