The Swift Current Water Treatment Plant

After boil water advisories were issued recently in Prince Albert and Weyburn, what are the chances of such an event happening here in Swift Current?

Trevor Feicht is the Engineering Services Manager for the city, who says they have a process that includes weekly testing of drinking water samples that are sent off to Regina.

"They test it in a lab and get back to us in a couple of days," Feicht says. "Additionally we have continuous monitoring equipment and alarms at the plant that are constantly testing certain aspects of the water."

He adds that no community is immune to boil water advisories as a number of factors such as new construction and changing of water lines can all lead up to potential boil water advisories in a community.

Meanwhile for the residents of Prince Albert, more bad news recently came after they were told that after nearly a month of being under a boil water advisory because of contaminated water it may be another month before things get back to normal.

A break down at the start of February caused the contamination of the entire water supply system with parasites.
