The Town of Maple Creek will be celebrating their Community Awards and Gala this evening to recognize individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations in the community.

"The Citizen of the Year Award and the Maple Creek Business Awards of Excellence have now come together to become the Maple Creek Community Awards and they have expanded their objective in also recognizing individuals and non-profit organizations as well as the Citizen of the Year and Business Excellence," said Royce Pettyjohn, Manager of Community and Economic Development for the Town of Maple Creek. "This year our Maple Creek Citizens of the Year are Ross and Connie Martin, two individuals within the community that have dedicated a great deal of time and energy to countless different community initiatives and community organizations. Our Business of the Year is the Rockin' Horse Cookhouse & Bar for its work in supporting community fundraising efforts through their steak nights and also showcasing the work of local art and artists through having art for sale on the walls of their restaurant from artists from throughout the southwest."

Pettyjohn says five community recognition awards will be handed out, including the Community in Bloom Steering Committee, the Commercial Hotel, The Hair Barn Salon, The Maple Creek Cowboy Poetry and Western Art and Gear Show Committee and The Maple Creek Volunteer Taxi Organization.

The event begins at 7:00pm at the C.M. Glascock Building on Jasper Street.
