Market Square comes to an end this month, and in a look back, we asked City officials, vendors, and local businesses what they thought of the weekend summer festivities.

The local farmers market is held every Saturday and hosts a variety of crafts, jewelry, fresh produce, and everything in between.

Market Square started this year on June 16 and will continue on until September 29, the last Saturday of the month.

This is the eighth annual Market Square held in Swift Current, and according to all accounts, it has done wonders for the downtown area and the businesses located in it since it started.

Sheri Florizone, director of cultural festivals for the City of Swift Current, said that Market Square is a great way to interact with the community, as well as benefiting local businesses.

"Market Square is a fantastic event, every week we get a chance to mix and mingle with members of the community, see people who you haven't had a chance to chat with throughout the week, and its a great chance for people in the area to bring their products to the city and it's a nice way to shop locally."

Vendors at Market Square all had good things to say about the program which has featured a variety of local goods throughout the summer months.

Audrey Betemps from Jazzy Jewelry by Audrey had a booth set up Saturday and said that she enjoyed the opportunity to sell her jewelry.

"Oh, it's wonderful, it brings a lot of business downtown, it brings a lot of people down here, and there are so many vendors there is something for everyone," she said. "Market Square is wonderful, every week you get a brand new variety of people, you get some old regulars coming out and enjoying the fun, and it's just been awesome."

In addition to vendors at the events, other businesses also received increased visitation during the duration of the summer on the Market Square Saturdays, including Fresh Vintage, an antique store owned by Janelle Bowyer.

"We love to have the Market Square," said Bowyer. "We are located right across the street from it, and so we have a lot of people who go through Market Square and then they come through and visit our store afterward."

Bowyer also said that it was great to see all the smaller local business that Swift Current harbors.

"Everyone is local obviously who comes into Market Square except for a few that come with fruits and whatnot from B.C., but I would say that a lot of vendors at the market are either local businesses or people doing local gardens and whatnot who bring everything, so I would say that they definitely have a good showcase of local people in Swift Current."

As part of one of the last weekends that Market Square is hosting this year, there was also a show and shine for classic and collector cars present just down the street on Saturday, with around 100 vehicles in attendance.
