Another winter warmup is on the way for Southwestern Saskatchewan.

The mild weather will begin today with a high of +4 C and could filter into the beginning of next week.

Brian Proctor, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the weather system passing through currently is the aftermath of rainstorms in British Columbia.

"Those kinds of storms that come into the coast that way tend to push the warm air across the Rockies and surface it into southern Alberta and now into southwestern Saskatchewan," he said. "It's really indicative of that kind of pattern that we've seen this year, a little bit of what we would typically expect with an El Niño kind of winter, which is warm air getting into western Canada."

Temperatures aren't expected to drop below minus single digits until Sunday night when Environment Canada predicts it to be -12 C.

"The warm air is likely going to hold into the weekend and then will slowly cool off as you move into the end of the weekend or the beginning of the work week," Proctor said.

The warmest peak is expected for Friday with a daytime high of +7 C.
