The start of the long Labor Day weekend saw the Shaunavon Fire Department answering a call.

This past Friday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. Shaunavon Fire Crews responded to a call of a grass fire.

The fire was located about 21 miles south of Shaunavon, in the Frenchman River Valley..the same location they were called to earlier in the week when a bird hit a transformer and the sparks caught the grass in the farmyard on fire.

Shaunavon Fire Chief, Dean McNabb, says this was a re-start up of that fire in the farmyard, with the fire smoldering underground, and wind and the extremely dry conditions causing the blaze to start back up again.

Although the fire, this time, came very close to the farm house McNabb says things were under control quickly thanks to help from farmers and Fauser Energy who supplied water.

There was no damage and no injuries reported.
