Uniting a community of motorcycle riders in southwest Saskatchewan, likeminded people who have lost their lives were honoured.

The 10th annual Rusty Cage Fun Run went off with a roar from motorcycles as they departed from the Buffalo Brew Pub in Swift Current.

Sixty-five motorbikes, along with 79 participants joined in on the run as they travelled to the communities of Morse, Hodgeville, Hazenmore, and Cadillac to remember fallen bikers.

Steve Hamm, president of the Rusty Cage Fun Run, said that he was happy to be able to honour the memories of fallen motorcycle riders, and do some good in their name.

"It's a pretty tight-knit community in Swift Current here. Bikers, they all know each other, they all get along, we remember all of our friends that have fallen... This year we [raised] just over $4,000, which will be donated 100 per cent locally to families in need around Swift Current."

He said that they made stops at hotels, bars, and taverns as the convoy made the trips.

The 11th annual run is planned for August 22 next year.

Hamm said that being able to look back on a decade of carrying on the memories of fallen riders in such a positive way was something they were happy to do.
