Yesterday at city hall, council agreed to commit a further $200,000 to Swift Current Museum project.

Paul Rezansoff, of behalf of the museum board, indicated an important grant from Cultural Spaces Canada, worth over $300,000, was denied last month.

In order to complete interior renovations at the old Trailview Credit Union Building, the museum board needs the cash.

Although city hall approved the additional funding, councilor, John Wall, insisted on an amendment that states the museum board will attempt to regain city dollars through fundraising.

The museum board will unveil a fundraising action plan in September to recoup further costs to the city.

After the 2007 budget, the city will have spent a total of $950,000 on the new museum. This number might be slightly less after exterior renovation costs.
