Acting Leader of the Saskatchewan New Democrats, John Nilson

The Saskatchewan New Democrats will look to recover from a massive defeat in November's election, which saw only nine candidates elected and Leader Dwain Lingenfelter resign.

Acting Leader John Nilson believes the NDP is still an effective opposition, and will continue to pressure the government on some of the major issues facing the province.

"The number one issue in Saskatchewan continues to be health," says Nilson. "Affordability issues are ever present, people can't afford their rents, utility rates are going up, city taxes are going up, and unfortunately the use of food banks is going up."

Nilson adds the NDP will also watch how the Brad Wall Government treats the crown corporations, adding, for example, reduced dividends from SaskTel over the last few years have led to recent problems with their services.
