Swift Current's new all-weather running track at the Comprehensive High School has been open for a couple of months already, and now the city and Chinook School Division have a 15-year shared services agreement for its use.

"What it does is allow annual maintenance of $5000 to be contributed by both parties so that we can resurface it in maybe 12 or 13 years, and the agreement also states policies, procedures and arrangements made for usage of the track," said General Manager of Community Services Dean Robson. "It should be good for the School Division and the General Public."

He adds the agreement also states that the public is welcome to use the track outside of the hours of 7:00am to 6:00pm weekdays during the school year.

The track was put in late this summer, and Robson says it's been getting rave reviews.

"Anybody that's used it just loves the track," he added. "What you'll see in the next little bit is we'll probably do a little grounds and landscaping around some of the western perimeter field amenities such as discus, javelin and those areas."

Robson says a community celebration to officially open the track is being planned for the spring of 2014.
