The ribbon has been cut and the new air terminal building at the Swift Current Airport has been officially introduced.

Sunday afternoon, an open house was held at the airport to showcase the new building.

City Councillor Gord Budd had the honour of cutting the ribbon and later spoke about how the new building came together.

"Last year, this proposal came before City Council from the developer and what he was prepared to do and how we could lease the space and so on. We looked at it and thought it looked good. We do have ongoing lease expense naturally but we didn't have the capital expense so it is a win-win for everybody. It is so nice to see this building now, again it is just one more piece of the puzzle and we can go forward from here," he said.

Budd also touched on how important the airport is to further developing the city of Swift Current.

"If you are going to grow a city or grow the region, and I don't think of this as the Swift Current Airport, I think of it as a regional airport, if you are going to grow that and make it more accessible, I mean we have got rail transportation through here, we have the Number 1 Highway going through, you need an airport. It is all a part of the accessibility to the city," he added.

Budd continued to say that they remain committed to improving the airport to the best of their ability.
