Those who are unvaccinated continue to be the primary crowd contracting COVID-19.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has released information regarding COVID-19 cases reported in the month of July, as well as hospitalizations and deaths, looking at how many were vaccinated with one dose, two doses, and how many were unvaccinated.

According to the SHA, there were a total of 1220 new cases of COVID-19 reported last month:

  • 921 (75.5%) of those were unvaccinated,
  • 184 (15.1%) of those had received one dose of the vaccine, and;
  • 115 (9.4%) had received both doses.

31.6% of cases reported in July were in individuals aged 19 and younger, and 18.4% were in those 12 and under.

There were also 83 people admitted into hospital throughout the month of July due to COVID-19, with:

  • 66 (79.5%) of those being unvaccinated,
  • 10 (12%) had received one dose, and;
  • 7 (8.4%) had received both doses of the vaccine.

Of those 83 admissions, 11 were aged 19 or younger, and 6 were under the age of 12.

Looking at ICU admissions, there were 20 in total between July 1-31:

  • 17 (85%) of those were unvaccinated,
  • 2 (10%) had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and;
  • 1 (5%) had received both doses.

The one ICU admission with both doses of the vaccine was over the age of 70 and had comorbid medical conditions. None were under the age of 19.

And there were four deaths due to COVID-19 reported in the month of July, with all four of the individuals being unvaccinated.
