Motorcyclists will be receiving a new option for a reduced insurance package in 2016.

The new option provides same benefits as the Tort product but the biker cannot sue.

"If I'm riding my bike and I get into a collision and it is my fault, I'm going to be at the reduced rate. If I tipped my bike on my own or if somebody has cut me off or it is their fault, they're responsible for the collision: then I am covered under a no fault benefits as if I have chosen the full package." explained Deputy Premier Don McMorris.

The idea of the new option is to lessen disproportions in payment factors.

"An average collision for personal vehicles, the injury proportion is about $29,000, but on motorcycles it is about $141,000. It is disproportionate. What we tried to do instead of that huge hike that we talked about at one point is to consult and look for a third option. We realize it does not cover all the concerns that some motorcyclists would have." said McMorris.

Other potential changes to injury coverage are still in talks and SGI expects more details to release in the summer.
SGI adds that the rates for its 3 options are all dependent on the type and make of the motorcycle and the driver's history.
