Primary Health Services in Shaunavon and Eastend have been enhanced with the addition of a new Nurse Practitioner.

Shelley Wilson will be based out of the Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre, and will start seeing patients from February 25th in Eastend on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and in Shaunavon on Wednesdays and Fridays.

"Eastend has not had a Nurse Practitioner based out of their clinic for a little bit of time now, and we are also expanding the Nurse Practitioner days," said Morgan Montgomery, Manager of Primary Care for the Cypress Health Region. "With the addition of Shelley, that's providing two additional days of Nurse Practitioner service, and also a local Nurse Practitioner, which is always nice to have someone from the community that works right in your hometown.

The town of Eastend was served by Maple Creek NP Erin Roberts on a part-time basis. Montgomery says Wilson coming to Eastend and Roberts returning to Maple Creek will help enhance health services in a number of communities.

"We're going to be able to provide vacation coverage to Leader for our NP there, and Shelley will do the same for Ponteix," she added. "Now that we're fully staffed, when one of our NPs is taking a vacation or off on a leave, we're able to cover some of those days off, so that we're not having clinics with a lack of days during those times."

Montgomery adds Wilson also helps provide additional NP services in Shaunavon to help their team make as many clinic appointments as they can each week.

The Cypress Health Region has eight Nurse Practitioners serving eight rural communities in the southwest.
