Five new faces to the political scene in Swift Current will be looking for spots on City Council in this fall's election.

"We need to go to our local businesses and find out what they need," said newcomer Jaysen Sletten, "we need to discuss these issues and attract new business, I think it's just about getting out into the community and finding out what they need."  Full Interview with Jaysen Sletten

Sletten, who has a 20-year business background in the city, and wants to see a lot of business and residential attraction in Swift Current, especially to address a shrinking labour force in the region. He also thinks the city is doing a great job and wants to be a part of it.

"In any business or organization like the city, I think you need some fresh eyes, doesn't mean they're doing a bad job just means sometimes fresh ideas are a good thing."

A total of 11 candidates, including the six incumbent councillors, will be on the ballot in the October 24th election.

In Herbert, Doreen Schroder has been acclaimed as mayor, and her councillors also won by acclamation.

Eastend Mayor Scott Morvik will not be running for re-election, and Alan Howard and Evelyn Sankey will be on the ballot for that position, as are 11 candidates for council.
