Saskatchewan's Crown sector recorded earnings of just over half-a-billion dollars in 2018-19 according to their annual report.

In 2018-19, the Crowns recorded net earnings of $540.6 million, an increase of $37.6 million over the previous year. Over the past five years, revenues of $1.9 billion were reported.

Crown Investments Minister Joe Hargrave said it was another strong year for the seven crown corporations in the province.

"Saskatchewan Crown corporations produce strong results year after year through excellent customer service, affordable and safe utilities, cost-effective insurance programs, fostering innovative tech start-ups and first-class entertainment opportunities."

Hargrave said that the Crown sector plays a vital role in improving services to Saskatchewan people and businesses.

"Whether it's ensuring wireless connectivity across the province, increasing the use of wind and solar power, or providing bursaries for Indigenous students, the success of the sector supports the government's priorities."

The Minister who is also responsible for SGI said that he feels the Crown sector is in a good place currently.

"Our goal is to make them as efficient and to be able to provide the best possible service in Saskatchewan in crowns," he said. "I believe they are running very efficiently. I think the financial numbers that we are showing show that they are being run well and they are being very efficient."

"I think looking to the future we do see the need for additional infrastructure," Hargrave said. "We have a huge gap in infrastructure when we took power, and we are seeing and starting to catch up on that. With environmental emissions standards going forward they continue to be an additional investment and our crowns are stepping up to meet that challenge."

The Crowns continue to contribute to the high quality of life in Saskatchewan.  Collaboration efforts include participating in initiatives like the framework for Prairie Resilience: A Made-in-Saskatchewan Climate Change Strategy, ongoing implementation of the rural wireless initiative, exploring partnership opportunities with rural municipalities on water infrastructure projects, and working with Saskatchewan business to help develop a globally competitive private sector.
