Drug- and theft-related charges were part of the docket at Swift Current Provincial Court yesterday.

A maximum $1000 fine has been handed down to a local man after he was caught with an illegal substance.  Twenty-six-year-old William Alexander Worth received the fine in Swift Current Provincial Court yesterday morning.  He faced the charges after a police search of his home turned up 440 grams of marijuana and drug-related paraphernalia.  While this was Worth's first criminal charge, both the Judge and Crown agreed that the fine was suitable considering the amount of drugs found.

Also, a 34-year-old man has pleaded guilty to four charges of theft under $5000.  Corey Dean Nyhagen had written one cheque to himself and three others to his business from September 2003 to October 2006 from the Swift Current Mixed Volleyball League.  He has repaid all of the money that was taken.  Nyhagen received a one-year conditional discharge, 40 hours of community service, and he must write an apology to the Mixed Volleyball League.
