Raphael Pelletier scored the game-winning goal with 2:58 left in regulation as the Swift Current Broncos (24-30-5-2) won their fourth straight game with a 5-3 win over the Regina Pats (23-29-3-2) Tuesday night.

Swift Current jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:24 into the game. Kayden Sadhra-Kang slid the puck into the high slot for Raphael Pelletier, and his shot through traffic beat a screened Matthew Kieper to put the Broncos ahead. It was Pelletier’s 16th goal of the season, quadrupling his career-high he set during the hub season.

Regina answered quickly as Connor Bedard scored just nine seconds into Regina’s first power play of the game, firing a hard shot on net from the left circle with a screen in front to pick up his 42nd of the year.

After failing to connect on their first power play of the game, the Broncos would regain their lead on their second power play on a very similar play to Pelletier’s goal.

Mathew Ward worked the puck to Sam McGinley in the high slot and his low shot beat Kieper past the blocker for his seventh of the year, restoring the Broncos lead at 2-1. They would carry that lead into the intermission with the shots 10-4 Regina.

The Pats tied the game early in period two, on another power play. This time Bedard passed the puck to Cole Dubinsky in the left circle and his shot was stopped, but Tanner Howe jumped on the rebound and slid it past the right pad of Poulter to tie the game.

Regina made a goaltending change to start period two as Drew Sim took over in net, and the Broncos would regain their lead on just the second shot on Sim. Karson King picked up a puck in the high slot and just fired on goal, beating Sim clean on the blocker side to give the Broncos a 3-2 lead 7:43 into the second period.

The game remained 3-2 through 40 minutes with the shots reading 25-10 Regina.

Bedard scored his second of the night on a penalty shot 6:44 into the third period as a Broncos player covered the puck with their hand in the crease. Bedard skated down the left side before cutting to the middle and firing the shot past Poulter’s glove, staring down the Bronco bench after the goal.

The Broncos had a number of chances to regain the lead in the third period, including a two-on-one chance where Josh Davies’s shot snuck through the five hole of Sim, but hit the inside of his pad and deflected to the corner. McGinley also had a breakaway during four-on-four play late in the third, but was denied by the right pad of Sim.

Swift Current regained the lead for good with under three minutes left in regulation. Ward slid the puck to Cole Nagy in the slot and his one timer missed the net, but came off the end wall to Pelletier to fired it home to put the Broncos up 4-3.

Regina pulled Sim late for the extra attacker, but a pass to the blue line bounced off the stick of Ryker Evans and right to Nagy who fired it out to centre for Carter Stebbings who hit the empty net to seal the Broncos victory.

Swift Current is now off until the weekend when they travel to Alberta for a two-game road trip, starting off with a Saturday night game against the Red Deer Rebels (39-17-2-2).

Announced attendance was 1,865.
