Everybody will be getting in touch with their loved ones this holiday season.

SaskTel is expecting 765,000 long-distance phone calls will be made this Christmas, with more than half of them going to locations outside of Saskatchewan. Andy Tate with SaskTel Media Relations says of those calls, about 615,000 will be made on landlines, while about 150,000 calls will be placed over its wireless network.

Tate adds the high amount of calls could result in some network congestion during peak hours: "It doesn't mean that you're going to have a problem, but during the busiest hours of the day, it is certainly possible that you could get a fast busy signal on the wireline network, or your call might not go through the first time when you try on the wireless network."

In addition to a large amount of long distance calls, Sasktel is estimating around eight million text messages will also be sent out on Christmas Day.
