One man was taken to Regina hospital in critical condition today after the vehicle he was driving crashed into Central School.

Swift Current Fire Department, RCMP, and Ambulance Services responded to the call just before 2 o'clock this morning because a pickup truck had crashed into the school.

Upon arrival, fire fighters found the pickup truck had struck the East Gym.

RCMP say the truck was travelling northbound on 1st Avenue NW, a southbound one-way street, at a high rate of speed when it struck the school gymnasium.

The Jaws of Life were used to free the trapped driver, who was then transported to Cypress Regional Hospital, and later air-lifted to Regina General Hospital.

The accident is still under investigation.
