The nice weather this week has gotten a lot of baseball fans excited for a new season.

Pitchers and catchers report for spring training in the majors next week, while in the WCBL, preparations are underway for the Swift Current 57’s as they look to get things going again this summer.

The team announced recently they’ve added Keith Herring as their new hitting coach this season. Herring comes to Swift Current from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M where he’s the infield/hitting/strength & conditioning coach, and he's into his ninth year of coaching at the collegiate level.

Also, outfielder Cory Bonstrom and pitcher Kenny Jinks will return to the team next season. Bonstrom hit .338 with 34 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 54 games last season, while Jinks had a 4-1 record with a 3.48 ERA and 61 strikeouts over 51.2 innings pitched.

Opening Day for the 57’s will be on May 26 in Regina with the home opener the following night against the Red Sox.
