Last night 85 members of Pioneer Co op gathered in Swift Current where they voted overwhelmingly in favour of Shaunavon Co-op joining them.

Two thirds of the vote was needed, and there were only two votes for 'no' in the follow up after Shaunavon Co-op members chose to amalgamate earlier this month.

Pioneer Co-op General Manager Stuart Dyrland looks forward to the change.

"We've got good good support from both Shaunavon and Pioneer groups, so that's always making it a lot easier when people are behind you for an amalgamation, for merging the two together," he said. "So we're really looking forward to putting it together."

Herbert and Maple Creek have also amalgamated in recent years.

"It just expands the area for both the Pioneer Co-op and the Shaunavon Co-op members," said Dyrland. "Now people going through Eastend or Bracken, they're able to use their Co-op number there. They'll get equity and that type of thing from all the locations in the southwest."

The change is effective February 4.
