There's a new mayor in Ponteix as Etienette Binette chose not to run this year, and councillor Shawn Larochelle has been acclaimed to the top job.

"I've lived here all my life, I know pretty much everyone that lives in town, and I've been on council for six years," Shawn said. "I've learned a lot on the way things are going, and I think I'll do a good job as mayor. I had a lot of support when I had decided to run, and lots of people expressed to me that they're happy I was running, and thought I'd do a great job."

One of the plans Larochelle has over the next four years as mayor is to work on a five-year plan for Ponteix.

"We haven't had a forward-looking plan before, so I think it will be very good where you can plan what you're going to do for up to five years, and focus your energy and time on those things," he added.

There won't be an election at all in Ponteix as they just got enough candidates to fill their council (Ernest Lemieux, Hector Boudreau, Delores Laverderie, Felix Therrien, Cliff Emms and Luc Larochelle), and Shauna Wright was acclaimed as the Chinook School Board trustee for Ponteix, Vanguard and Val Marie.

There also won't be an election in Maple Creek as Barry Rudd returns to the Mayor's chair by acclamation. Six councillors were also acclaimed (Barry Elderkin, Ellaine Hawrylak, Janita Cresswell, Justin McFarlane, Michelle McKenzie, and Kevin Harrigan), as was Rod Fairbrother, the Public School Board member for Maple Creek and Consul.

Gull Lake will have a battle for Mayor as incumbent Blake Campbell faces a challenge from Susan Davies. Seven candidates will be running for council, including the three incumbents Chris Bye, Nasser Zanidean and Jeff Mittelholtz, and four newcomers Paul Oevering, Derrick Wiebe, Ed Lowenberger and Mike Yates. Bernie Ford was also acclaimed as the Public School Board trustee for Gull Lake, Tompkins and Wymark.

Herbert Mayor Doreen Schroeder won by acclamation, as did her council members Rod Cannon, Rhonda Gerl, Doug Osmond, Heidi Riemann, Frances Schwartz and Roy Seibel. The Public School Board position for Herbert, Hodgeville and Waldeck will be up for election with incumbent Tim Weinbender and challenger Darren Steinley.

In Eastend, incumbent Mayor Scott Morvik will not be running again, and there will be an election for the position between Alan Howard and Evelyn Sankey. Eleven candidates are also running for council: Stephanie Davisson, Charles Michel, Dennis Webster, Bryce Busse, Cameron Van Sandt, Robert Stork, Larry Bird, Deborah Giverhaug, Mark McKechnie, Sean Bell, and John Schmitt.
