Swift Current's Riverside Park was flooded with dogs and their owners as part of a unique fundraiser.

The "SPCA Pets in the Park Dog Walk" brought out around 20 pooches to the park yesterday as part of the returning fundraiser.

A minimum pledge of $50 was required to participate in the group-dog walking activity, helping to support the Swift Current SPCA.

Teresa Cole, a development officer with the Swift Current SPCA, said that participants seem to enjoy the event.

"We've had a number of folks that have been with us pretty much every year since this has started, and this is the fourth year, plus we always pick up a few new folks each year, which is nice to see."

"The other fun thing this year, is we're seeing more and more entries that are dressing their dogs up, so it always adds to the fun when there are some costumes in the mix as well."

The walk took two routes, a loop towards Willow Creek Manor, and a second loop towards Kinetic Park.

She said that they have several SPCA alumni participate in the event each year.

"[The] last couple of years we've had a grand marshal for the walk, and this year [Swift Current City] Councillor Chris Martens has agreed to do that for us, and his dog, Meadow, is one of our SPCA alumni."

"[It's] really nice to see old friends."

She said that the fundraiser was usually able to raise a fair amount of profit.

"It's been a really great event for us, it's a nice casual event, just a chance for people to come out, and yet it's a fundraiser for us, so we usually come out of it with a few thousand dollars to help out the other dogs and cats at the shelter."

The total raised by this year's walk is around $5,000.
