The provincial government is turning to the residents of Saskatchewan for input on impairment in workplaces ahead of marijuana being legalized this fall.

A release from the Saskatchewan government on Friday morning alluded to the majority of respondents from the online cannabis survey last fall hoping steps towards workplace safety would be taken.

"This consultation is being done in anticipation of the introduction of the federal Cannabis Act," a ministry spokesperson for Labour Relations and Workplace Safety said. "We hope to receive submissions representing the viewpoints of a wide array of stakeholders and groups in the province to provide the best possible insight into how the people of Saskatchewan feel we can best address impairment in the workplace through regulation."

No timeline has been set regarding possible changes to The Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996.

A consultation paper has been posted on the government's website and they will be accepting written submissions by email until August 31.

Marijuana is set to become legal throughout the country on October 17.
