The Saskatchewan Health Authority has released its Vaccine School Delivery Strategy on Tuesday, as well as a second dose update.

School Delivery

Local campaign representatives will be working with schools directly on the logistics behind the distribution; including dates, times, and locations. The plans set in place for each school will be based on the school's schedule, graduations and exams, and any other alternate learning schedules.

Each school will be announcing its clinic schedule individually through media releases, letters, and/or social media.

Only children 12 and up will be eligible to receive their Pfizer vaccine through the program.

The campaign is set to start in June, with final dates varying between cities and towns.

The clinics will operate from Monday to Friday, and while this is happening the SHA will focus on operating drive-thru and walk-in clinics Friday to Sunday. This should only last for approximately three weeks.

During this time, you will NOT be able to book an appointment through the SHA online or over the phone. Booked appointments will continue to be available however through participating pharmacies.

Written consent will be required for all children aged 12-17. Only one consent is needed for both doses. Parents are also encouraged to review the information packages provided to their children and discuss the importance of vaccinations with them.

It should be noted as well that as of May 20, all children aged 12 and up will be eligible to receive their vaccine and they do not necessarily have to wait for a school clinic to get it. They will be able to book an appointment with a pharmacy that is administering the Pfizer brand, they could also attend a drive-thru or walk-in clinic with Pfizer, or book online or over the phone. It will be up to a parent however to ensure wherever they are booking has Pfizer in stock.

In terms of a second dose, students must wait a minimum of 21 days after receiving their first dose before receiving their second. Second doses will be available in July and August after second doses are provided to older populations. If second dose uptake is low, the SHA will consider school-based immunization in the fall.
