It's that time of year, and the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation would like to remind motorists of the potential hazards of wildlife on the roads.

The "Moose on the Loose" campaign is back for another year, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and SGI, which utilizes roadside billboards, television, radio, and local posters to remind motorists of caution on the roads this season.

Executive Director for the SWF, Darrell Crabbe says from now until around the end of December, the wildlife will be moving quite frequently.

"At this time of year, we're right in the middle of the white-tail rut, which makes them even less concerned about their surroundings and they usually have no cautionary measures they take to cross roads. They pretty much have tunnel vision," he says. "Certainly around the major centers, the deer population didn't have quite the same winter effect that the rural deer would have had. Those numbers  are still fairly high around Saskatoon, Regina, PA those kinds of places, so we're just asking that people, anywhere that there's deer crossing signs or moose crossing signs to just take a little bit of extra time and be a little more aware out there."

Crabbe adds when encountering wildlife on or near the road, slowing down is the best defense against a collision.
