Residents of Swift Current will see an increase in their power bills next month.

City Councillors approved an 8.5% increase at last night's council meeting, to be effective June 1, 2009.

Mitch Minken, Director of Light and Power, says the average home will see an increase of $12.50, with apartments seeing an increase of $7.50.  The last increase in power rates for Swift Current was in March 2007.

Minken says this increase is to help ensure that all customers in the province pay the same amount for electricity.
