RCMP in Swift Current are warning the public about a scam that's going around.

They say earlier this week, a city resident received a call from a person claiming to be a family member in need of money, saying they were in an accident while impaired and needed money sent electronically to another province. The caller also gave an ultimatum to send the money as soon as possible so they wouldn't be charged with impaired driving.

The person who received the call became suspicious and was able to determine that the call was a scam without sending any money.

RCMP are reminding people to be cautious about these types of scams, especially ones that require the electronic transfer of money, and if anyone believes they have been targeted by a fraud, they should report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501.
