It was another successful year for the Relay for Life in Swift Current.

The annual fundraiser for cancer reasearch took in more than $61,000, which is the second-highest fundraising total for the event in Swift Current.

Jackie Chelew, Office Assistant with the Canadian Cancer Society, says they had a fantastic turnout for the 12-hour event, with 231 people taking part on 24 teams, including 95 cancer survivors.  1205 Luminaries were also sold and lit at Riverside Park.

The provincial goal for the event this year is $2.8 million, and with eight events this weekend, Chelew says $1.52 million has been raised in Saskatchewan.  Twelve more Relays are to be held through the next month in the province.
