Swift Current was rocking around the Christmas tree last night at the annual Christmas tree lighting.

Market Square was filled with holiday spirit as Marlene Johnson from the city explains.

"I just love this event. It brings the whole community together and there's so much to do and the kids just love it. Swift Current Broncos are here, the fire trucks are here, and Santa. It's awesome."

The evening consisted of sleigh rides, performances from Ecole Centennial School choir and the Dance Studio as well as a special appearance from the big man himself Santa Clause.

Also in attendance was Reid Dyck, goalie for the Swift Current Broncos who was impressed with the evening's festivities.

"It's been awesome. It's been a great turnout, it's great to see such a supportive community and hopefully, we can see all these people in the building tomorrow night. It's the biggest Christmas tree I've ever seen. It's definitely a pretty cool thing to have here in Swift Current."

Johnson adds that the event is always a great way to kick off the holiday season and get everyone in the holiday spirit.
