Today marks the end of a busy Saskatchewan Abilities Council Awareness Week.

The City of Swift Current made the declaration in honour of Sask Abilities, and yesterday it was announced the organization was nominated for the Swift Current Chamber of Commerce's not-for-profit business-of-the-year award.

Sask Abilities' Swift Current Regional Director Kimi Duzan made the announcement with the Chamber's CEO Karla Wiens at the newly-renovated Sask Abilities centre in front of a full house. As people dug into cake in the centre's updated cafe, Duzan said the nomination was an exclamation mark on a great week.

"It really means a lot to me, and the staff here at the Swift Current branch," said Duzan. "To have our work recognized, our contribution to community, making a difference in the lives of the community and the people with disabilities. To be nominated knowing the great work the not-for-profit sector does, and to be considered important within that group, is fabulous."

The nomination shortlist will be announced October 3.

On Thursday Sask Abilities had a fundraising barbecue downtown and raised approximately $2,000 as 350 people took in the food and live music played by Bakersfield.

A Sask Abilities flag flew for the week, as they celebrated a rebranding. About $100,000 in renovations was done to the Swift Current branch location.
