Over the past year, the number of people receiving employment insurance in Saskatchewan has dropped over the past year, signalling a potential strengthening in the economy.

Saskatchewan's recipients of E.1 numbers saw a 10 percent drop in May compared to the same time last year according to Statistics Canada.

This decrease is the biggest of all provinces across Canada with a comparable figure of 4,3 percent.

In Saskatchewan, there were 1,730 fewer people receiving benefits, and across Canada, there were 19,660 fewer people on E.I.

There was a total of 15,200 Saskatchewan people on E.I in May.

The decline comes from Saskatchewan two most populated areas, Regina and Saskatoon, according to statistics Canada.

The Saskatoon area saw a decline of 4.5 percent while the Regina area saw a 2.7 percent decrease.

Saskatchewan's employment rose by 2.7 percent overall, and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.2 percent.
