Saskatchewan's literacy advocate will likely close its doors in two months.

Last week, the federal government announced that it was cutting $17.7 million to the Adult Learning, Literacy and Essential Skills program.

Debbie Griffith, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Literacy Network, says the cuts will have a significant effect on literacy services, including the lose of eight jobs at her Saskatoon-based office.

Griffith points to a 2003 study that among Canadian adults aged 16 to 65, 42% stuggle with literacy.

This week, the Conservative government announced $1.6 million to fund an Internet databace related to workplace literacy and essential skills.
