Every Saturday of every month is now known as Buy Local Day, since the Government of Saskatchewan made the announcement earlier this week.

Local business means big business in Saskatchewan, with 98% of all enterprises within the province being small businesses.

"We very much encourage citizens here in the province to buy local as much as they possibly can," said Minister of Immigrations, Jobs, Skills and Training, Jeremy Harrison. "My mother's a small business person and I know many folks across the province are small business employed. Nearly 150,000 people, which is over 31 per cent of our Saskatchewan workforce. We think buying local is something to be encouraged and for that reason, we proclaimed the Buy Local Day."

The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to their initiative of reducing the Small Business Income Tax rate in order to create a positive business climate.

"By maintaining a low tax environment, controlling spending, and reducing red tape, we really are trying to create an environment for local business to flourish here in the province, and we just want to move forward in that fashion," added Harrison.

The first Saturday to be proclaimed as Buy Local Day will be June 6th, 2015.
