Saskatchewan flag creator Anthony Drake is continuing on his tour of the province before heading back to England on Tuesday, and stopped by the community of Herbert on Friday.

The former Hodgeville teacher attended a cake cutting ceremony at the Herbert Train station Friday with a warm gathering of Herbert locals along with wife Joan and son John and Mayor Doreen Schroeder.

Drake says he has managed to run into a few familiar faces during the tour.

"It's nice to see all of the people. We have met a lot of people that we knew, and I've met a lot of students who remember me. I don't remember them though, over the years I have taught thousands of students and you can't remember them all," he said.

Mayor Schroeder also spoke on the importance of flags.

"Flags are important, they create an identity for the country and sometimes we as Canadians have not always given respect to those types of things or those types of emblems, but I think we are getting better at it, which is wonderful," she said.

Drake's final stop will be in Assiniboia on Monday.
