The number is 1,003,299.  That's how many people lived in Saskatchewan in October 2007.

Saskatchewan's population has reached the million mark for the first time in a long time, and also has the highest net migration rate in the country.

Premier Brad Wall says this is nothing but good news for Saskatchewan, as more residents will translate to more taxpayers, and more funding for healthcare and education because of a bigger tax base.

Premier Wall adds that two factors contributed to the milestone.  One of which is the change to a more enterprise-friendly government.  There were also some pre-election changes, such as business tax reform, and there are resources the world wants.  The government hopes to sustainably develop those and continue to attract investment to the province.

Premier Wall also believes there is plenty of room for more people in Saskatchewan, and the government hopes to work hard with municipalities to avoid some of the growth-related challenges that may be ahead.
