gas meter

SaskEnergy would like to remind homeowners and businesses to work safely around gas meters.

This reminder comes after four incidents over the last three days where natural gas meters and above ground facilities were damaged by equipment during snow removal.

"Make sure you remove any built up snow by hand, but make sure not to use a sharp instrument to try to chip off any snow or ice from the meter because that can damage the meter as well," said Communications Officer, Casey MacLeod. "We also see in the winter, where the snow on someone's roof, apartment building or business will melt and run down the side of the building, and it ends up icing over the natural gas meter. We're encouraging anyone with any ice build up to very carefully remove the ice from the natural gas meter."

MacLeod adds if you have concerns about possibly damaging the meter, contact SaskEnergy at 1-888-7000-GAS to have the ice safely removed by a technician.
