A massive power outage affecting 60 percent of Saskatchewan yesterday morning has raised questions about the province's electricity supply.

Power went out shortly before 4:30am when a storm hit North Dakota, knocking out their power.  Saskatchewan's power was being drawn from the state at the time, causing a near province-wide blackout.

SaskPower's Larry Christie says we don't rely on North Dakota for power, but it is a commodity, and if the province can get it cheaper than it can be made, it saves money.  He says it is not uncommon to sell a power surplus to other regions who are in need, and to buy power when it is cost effective.

Yesterday's power outage stretched from Regina to Shaunavon and had an impact as far north as Prince Albert.
