A plethora of breakfast clubs and charitable organizations in Swift Current will be receiving a funding boost from one of Saskatchewan's largest employers.

Late last week SaskTel announced eight local recipients of their 2021 TelCare donation that earmarked about $5,850 to split evenly between them.

Lindsay Mazenc, the external communications manager with SaskTel, said the initiative is driven mainly (66 per cent) by employees who enroll in a voluntary payroll deduction with SaskTel chipping in one-third of the donations.

"It's really meaningful for employees in each district that they can give back to organizations that are important to them," she said.

Just over $730 from the crown corporation will be given to breakfast clubs at All Saints Catholic School, Central School, École Centennial School, and Fairview School.

While the same amount will be given to the SaskAbilities Swift Current Branch, Southwest Crisis Services, Swift Current SPCA, and the Swift Current Salvation Army.

"An employee in Swift Current who would be a current TelCare member would refer those organizations to apply for TelCare," Mazenc explained. "Then the districts collectively choose or agree upon what organizations to support."

According to a SaskTel release, 648 of their employees in 2021 partook in the TelCare program on average donating about $200 with another $100 being contributed by the company.

Across the province, almost $209,000 will be gifted to 47 Saskatchewan charitable and non-profit organizations.
