Prairie Pioneers Independent Housing is bringing some new seniors housing to Swift Current. They're putting the finishing touches on 24 single bedroom units for low income seniors on Gladstone Street.

"Well that particular project is funded with three partners. Some of it comes from Sask Housing, some from Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation and as well as Prairie Pioneer Independent Housing also contributed to that." said Swift Current City Councillor Dan Martens, who is on the board.

They are also investing in renovating 70 units built in the 1950s that are in serious need of restoration.

"Certainly some safety factors that we are very concerned about things like furnaces we needed to get 220 power it only had 110 volt. Most of the infrastructure as far as the sewer goes is cast iron so when your looking back to the mid 1950's most of that is starting to fail already." added Martens.

They still have some vacancies in the new units that they will be renting out at $500 a month.
