The Shaunavon Co-op Association has begun work on a new building to house the Home and Agro Centre and the Co-op Administration Office.

"The existing Home and Agro Centre has basically lived its current life," said Co-op General Manager Kevin Braun. "This building has been around since the 50s, and has been updated and kind of band-aided expansions over the years. Sales are strong, and we want to have a bigger prescense in the Home Centre."

The new building will be 18,184 square feet and will cost just over $4 million, and Braun adds it will offer more hardware and seasonal items and an expanded Ag business.

He says work on building the new structure has already begun.

"We've already demolished the back half of the administration and lumber alley to make room for the footprint of the new structure," Braun added. "Once that is up and built, the front half of the administration building will be demolished, and then the existing Home and Agro Centre will be demolished to make room for the parking lot."

The tentative completion date will be late summer or early fall of next year.
