Shaunavon Hospital A shortage of registered nurses prompted the temporary disruption of services at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre yesterday.

Trent Regier, Director of Rural Health with the Cypress Health Region, says they have been trying to fill shifts with contract nurses.

He notes one of their contract nurses took another job and left a gap in the schedule they couldn't fill.

Regier adds that, unfortunately, when you're dealing with their current staffing levels, many health care facilities are one person away from closing, whether it's a doctor, lab staff or nurse.

He says they recently hired a new full time nurse for Shaunavon and continue to work on their recruitment and retention strategies.
