Shaunavon's own, Kale Kessy, was named The Hershey Bears IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year for his community contributions this past season.

Kessy has helped lead The Hershey Bears Initiative, which showcases philanthropic activities and the volunteer efforts of Bears players and staff throughout the community of Hershey Pennsylvania.

The forward participated in more then 20 events during the 2019-2020 season, helping to bring smiles to sick children, delivering food to those in need and helping lead the team's Roaring to Read Program.

The 27 year old has also met with members of the military, and has taken part in team specialty nights to fight cancer and raise funds for charitable causes.

Kessy is one of 31 finalists for The Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, the league award named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All Star who died in 1997.

On the ice, it was Kessy's first season with The Bears. He was held off the stat sheet in 24 games, accumulating 102 penalty-minutes.

Overall, it was his 7th professional season, having spent time with a total of eight teams at the AHL and ECHL levels during that time.
