On Friday a sign was erected near the site of southwestern Saskatchewan’s newest health facility, the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility (SIHF) in Maple Creek. The unveiling of the site signage marks another progressive step towards the construction of the integrated health facility.

Representatives of the Cypress Health Region and the Project Steering Committee joined members of the public, health region staff, and patient family advocates in an informal event to acknowledge this important milestone. The sign is located east of the current Maple Creek Hospital near the Highway #21, and will be displayed until the construction of the facility is complete in 2014.

Beth Vachon, Chief Executive Officer for the Cypress Health Region, participated in the sign unveiling. "As we move closer and closer to construction of this wonderful facility, this sign will serve as a visible reminder to those passing by that this project was the result of a tremendous partnership between the local communities and their residents, the provincial government, and the Cypress Health Region," stated Vachon. "This sign will serve as a symbol of our collective commitment to bring this new version of health programs and services to this area."

"The Southwest Community has come together, and continues to work together, to make this project a reality," said Wilf Parsons, Chairman of the SIHF Steering Committee. "It is truly a pleasure to be a part of this group that is so focused on health care improvements for the Southwest."

The next step in the project’s planning process will be a ‘call for tenders’ for construction which will be publicized in the near future. Following the approval and awarding of a construction tender in early August, the next phase will include planning with the successful contractor to begin the construction process.

It is anticipated that construction of the $45 million integrated health facility will begin in the fall of 2012. Barring any unforeseen delays, the projected opening of the new facility is anticipated to occur in the summer of 2014.
