It was October 1984 that Southwest Crisis Services was formed, and the organization marked the anniversary with a special ceremony on Friday.

Executive Director Joyce Goodhand says, over the 25 years, they have proven to be a valuable service to the community.  She says, in 1984, there was no place to go in stressful situations, and people stayed in silence.  She adds that the difference now is that people are brave enough to access the services.

Goodhand says hundreds of people have come through the Safe Shelter since it started 20 years ago, and as many as 500 people per year have called the Crisis Line over the 25 years.

Dignitaries at the celebration included Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall, and Swift Current Mayor Sandy Larson.
